Growlers for beer and soda

Full disclosure: I was not paid by any company creating these products. I’m merely writing about this to hopefully save someone time on getting a pressurized beverage container.

I’ve been looking for a way to store my beer in a keg without getting a kegorator or any kind of serious equipment. So the idea I came up with is to get a pressurized growler. To make the family happy, I used the excuse that we could also use it to make soda.

I boiled my decisions down to three growlers: Vevor 128oz growler, Vevor 170oz growler and GrowlerWerks 128oz growler. When comparing Vevor growlers with GrowlerWerks growlers, there are several key differences to consider:

  • Material: Vevor growlers are usually made of stainless steel, providing durability and insulation. On the other hand, GrowlerWerks growlers are often made of vacuum-insulated, double-walled stainless steel, offering superior temperature retention.
  • Pressure Regulation: GrowlerWerks growlers are equipped with a regulator cap that allows you to adjust the dispensing pressure, providing a smoother pour. Vevor growlers has this feature, in fact one of the nice things is that the CO2 is on the outside, so if it runs out, you don’t need to open the growler.
  • Accessories and Design: GrowlerWerks often provides a CO2 regulator and tap system as accessories, allowing for easy dispensing and carbonation control. Additionally, their growlers have a sleek, streamlined design with customizable finishes. Vevor growlers offers a cheaper design and fewer additional accessories. Additionally, it has a ton of potential for leaks with all the screw-on components.
  • Cleaning and Maintenance: The Vevor has a detachable plastic tube that you can clean with a pipe cleaner. The Vevor 128oz also has a bigger opening at the top compared to the GrowlerWerks, but the Vevor 170oz is smaller than GrowlerWerks. The GrowlerWerks has a single screw cap, so there are fewer things to clean. You can’t detach the pipe, but there is a small access screw that you can open and put in a pipe cleaner. Alternatively, you could just simply fill each up with Star-San or other cleaning solution and use a CO2 cartridge to pump the cleaner through.

By considering these factors, you can determine which growler best aligns with your specific brewing and dispensing needs. You can watch my YouTube video on the comparison here:

Ultimately, I returned both Vevor containers simply because of the concerns about all the gaskets potentially leaking and because I had a tough time putting in the piece with the tap into the bottom bottle section on the Vevor 128oz. The Vevor 170oz did not have this problem, but the concerns about all the various gaskets remained.
