Flight Simulator setup

I’ve been finding it a pain to get my flight simulator put together each time I want to play. Put the yoke on the table, screw it down. Get the pedals placed right and prevent it from sliding back. Hook up the USB.

It may seem like I’m lazy, I get it. I read somewhere that if you want to do something, you have to lower the barrier to entry. For example, if you want to go for a run each morning, put your running shoes next to your bed instead of your slippers. Another example, if you want to play your guitar instead of watch TV at night, put the guitar on a stand next to your couch and have the remote up on a shelf. Same idea here: have the flight sim stuff all set up and ready to go.

The design

First I needed to figure out how it should look. I also wanted a way to easily extract out the measurements of the pieces of wood that I will need to cut. Here is the tinkerCad design: https://www.tinkercad.com/things/3N3vC8EBjGE-mighty-bombul/edit

Some assembly required

Next I needed to figure out how much wood I need. Found one of the gazillion calculators online and came up with three 2×4’s. After that, it’s just a few cuts, screws and you’re done.

Final thoughts

This setup works pretty well. Putting it together was relatively easy. I also got to practice cutting angles with just a circular saw. Luckily they were all 45 degrees. Once I have a garage again I’ll get some nicer tools. That being said, the required tools is very minimal if I can build this in our apartment.
